Milestone AI Prints

Know exactly how AI is contributing to your codebase.

Milestone AI Prints is a lightweight git extension that tracks AI-generated code at the line level, through every commit, merge, and rebase, and connects it directly to your engineering metrics in Milestone.

Why it matters

Your teams are using AI coding tools every day. But without line-level attribution, you're left with estimates: adoption surveys, token costs spread across time and vendors, and no way to tie AI spend to actual output. AI Prints closes that gap.

With AI Prints, Milestone knows which lines of code came from AI, which developer wrote or accepted them, which agent generated them, and which PR they landed in. That turns AI spend from a cost center into a measurable productivity signal.

What AI Prints unlocks

Accurate cost per PR — Token costs tied directly to individual pull requests, not time-weighted estimates. Know what each PR actually cost in AI spend, not an approximation.

Line-level AI attribution — See exactly how much of the code in any PR, repo, or team is AI-generated vs. human-written. This replaces adoption rate with a ground-truth measure of how AI code is entering your codebase.

Cross-agent attribution — Your developers use multiple tools. AI Prints shows which lines came from Cursor vs. Claude Code vs. Copilot, within a single PR.

Human intervention level — For IDE-based agents like Cursor and GitHub Copilot, AI Prints tracks the level of human intervention in each session: how much of the output flowed through autonomously vs. how much the developer manually directed or revised. Understand which tools your teams rely on most.

How it works

AI Prints hooks into your developers' existing coding agents — Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, Codex, Windsurf, and more — with no workflow changes required. Once installed, Milestone begins ingesting attribution data automatically on each PR merge.

To install AI Prints, navigate to App Settings → Integrations in your Milestone account and follow the setup instructions there.

No per-repo configuration. No changes to how developers work. For team-wide rollout via MDM, or to get AI Prints enabled for your account, contact your Milestone account manager.

Common questions

Will this change how our developers work? No. Zero workflow changes, zero overhead on git operations. Developers install it once and never think about it again. If a developer adopts a new coding tool down the line, a quick reinstall adds AI Prints hooks for that tool.

When does data start appearing? Attribution data is available within 24 hours of first use after AI Prints is activated for your account. Trends become meaningful over 2 to 4 weeks of team-wide usage. To get started, reach out to your Milestone account manager.

What coding agents are supported? Any agent that writes to the filesystem through standard git operations: Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Windsurf, and others. When a developer adds a new coding tool, a quick reinstall connects AI Prints to that tool's output.
